Marty can guide you go down whatever musical path that interests you.I studied with her for close to two years. She tells you what you need to do to achieve great quality, but never makes you feel bad if you don't make it. Instruction is always individualized and positive. She always looks for what you do best and helps you develop your strengths. She works with you to overcome your weaknesses. Marty is equally patient, motivated, and inspiring I've been taking lessons for a year & a half, and from the start, it's been exciting and challenging and not boring in the least. I just finished my first lesson with Marty today. I was nervous and excited before the lesson but Marty was very welcoming, warm and friendly. She is very passionate about music and singing and during the lesson I could feel she was invested in my success. At first, the reason I decided to take singing lessons was just for fun but after 9+ months with Marty, man oh man... I swear you don't just learn piano from Marty. You learn about life. She caters to the needs and skills of each student. She personalizes each lesson with a music binder that she puts together for you. And she is gracing the music world with a book on her method! Her repertoire/bookshelf is endless. I went to Marty for voice lessons, initially - I had never taken any before, and I wanted to grow in improving my singing voice. I did have about 10 years of instruction in classical piano before my 20's, however, and after a number of voice lessons with Marty, I asked if she would also help me learn more improvisation on the piano (which is something I had only learned a little of in my years of piano lessons). It was a real treat to get to a place where I could both play and sing at the same time with her help - and comfortably! She was so fun to work with, and I really appreciate her perspective on music and her clear enjoyment of it. I'm a student at ASU's School of Music and wanted to get extra help with singing, since it is not my primary instrument. I've been studying music for 14 years playing the piano, violin, and guitar. Marty is very knowledgeable and has helped me so much with not only my voice, but I've also been able to use what she's taught me to help me with my other instruments and classes. She has helped me in areas none of my other teachers have really touched, such as improvisation and accompaniment, and she explains things very thoroughly and with good examples.
